Madekwe, a mixed race British-Nigerian child was born into an ethnically diverse family from South London. Her mother and father are both English. Her family was lived in a housing estate run by the council in the south of London. When she was 14, she attended The Brit School. She went to an academy called the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London which she graduated with an acting BA. Madekwe was a part of the comedy How to Lose Friends and to annoy people (2008). Her credits in theatre are Little Sweet Thing or Roy Williams as well as Flight Path of David Watson.
Madekwe was cast as Ashley Davenport in ABC's drama The Beautiful Life. The two-episode show aired only for 2 weeks at The CW and then it ended. In February of 2011 she was cast in the role of Ashley Davenport in the ABC drama series Revenge. Madekwe was in the episodes in the series' initial two seasons as an regular. However, in May 2013, the announcement was made that she would be departing the show following her guest appearance in the first episode of the series' third season. Between 2014 and 2016, Madekwe was a star as Tituba the television series Salem. Then, in June of 2012 Madekwe was married to her long-time love actor Iddo Goldberg.
